How To Get Started On Your Wellness + Journaling Tips with Tatyana Jade

Share your story and how your wellness journey began

Hi! My name is Tatyana and I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. My wellness journey really only started in my mid 20’s. After years of feeling lost, spending too much time on toxic relationships, partying too much, not honoring or taking care of my body, & working at jobs that didn’t light me up, I started to dig deeper.

For most of my life, I felt very lost & confused with what my purpose was - what I was put on this earth to do. I struggled in school & didn’t feel passionate about any jobs that were out there. After years of feeling numb, feeling uninspired in my work & my day to day life, & feeling like I was barely scratching the surface of my potential, I knew I had to make a change. I was tired of the limiting beliefs that were replaying in my mind (that I wasn’t good enough, or smart enough, or worthy). I was tired of feeling like I was living my life on auto-pilot with no real purpose or destination in sight.

I realized that all the issues I was having started with me; the negative ideas I had of myself & the lack of self-love & self-awareness that I had. I was constantly looking for happiness & validation outside of myself. I realized that in order to heal, I had to look within, I had to start loving myself, & working every day to become the best version of myself.

I was around 27 years old when I decided to buy my first self-development books. I walked into my local bookstore and picked up the following books: You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero, Mastering your Mean Girl by Melissa Ambrosini, & The Universe Has Your Back by Gabby Bernstein. Reading those books gave me a sense of peace in knowing that I wasn’t alone. It also helped knowing that my only limits were the ones within my own mind.

Since then, I’ve read so many amazing books & have been mentored by really inspiring people and I’ve also learned to practice gratitude and fall back in love with life. I really try to focus on being in the present moment and enjoying the little things; a warm cup of coffee, fresh sheets at the end of a long day, a hot shower, a luxurious skin care routine, the feeling of the warm sun on my skin, a good plate of pasta :) I think that we are so focused on the things that we don’t have and we are always striving for bigger and better, that we forget to be thankful for the things we do have.

I’m 31 and I’m deeper into my wellness journey now more than ever. To me, wellness starts with your mind; the thoughts you think, the ideas you have of yourself which is why I am so passionate about mindset & self-development because I believe it all starts there. I’m also super passionate about meditation, moving my body, eating whole foods, & doing what feels good.

What type of journaling do you do and what tips do you recommend to get started?

I’ve been journaling for a really long time, whenever I would feel anxious or sad about something, journaling was something that I turned to as it felt really good to put all my thoughts on paper - it felt like a release. I started to incorporate more journaling in my life when I started to use the Superhuman Meditation app. Journaling really helps me gain clarity and also helps me to feel like I’m “venting” in a way. I also love writing down affirmations & goal lists - it’s fun to look back on to see where you were at a point in your life compared to where you are now.

I think if someone wants to get started, a good starting point would be to ask yourself these 3 questions:

1.What do I want?

2.How do I want to feel?

3.What can I do for myself today?

What effects has journaling had in your life?

I would say that the habit that has had the most effect on my life is meditation. Journaling can be a form of meditation but in general, meditation has helped me SO much. I used to be a very anxious person, I would overthink everything, I would worry about what others thought of me, and so on. Since I started meditating, I became more confident, I was able to push myself out of my comfort zone & do things that I’ve always wanted to do. I made some amazing new friends and I’ve also created more abundance & opportunities in my life. Ultimately, I’ve gained clarity & reduced my anxiety which has helped me connect with my purpose. Above all, I’ve grown a small community that I am so proud of and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

What would you recommend as an alternative for those who don't like writing?

Definitely some tools that have helped me on my journey are listening to inspiring podcasts, reading self-development books (there are SO many good ones), & surrounding yourself with like-minded people. And if you can’t find your people, my DM’s are always open or you can follow inspiring people on Instagram or TikTok. Luckily, there are an endless amount of resources out there and so many amazing people who have dealt with the same issues that you could be facing.
